Former Auxiliary member makes $42,700 Donation!
MCH Foundation announces a gift of $42,700 from the estate of Pamela Huss, a former resident of Lake Arrowhead and MCH Auxiliary member. Pam passed away on February 12, 2018.
Pam was born on May 31, 1937 to Marshall Pratt Phillips and Louise Jones in Los Angeles. She grew up in Atwater Village and graduated from Marshall High School. She started her career as a bookkeeper and retired as a Vice President with Security Pacific Bank. She had a deep love of literature, and always surrounded herself with books of all genres. She also loved doing crossword puzzles and was a master at 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzles.
Pam retired to Lake Arrowhead with her husband Bob, who was also in the banking industry. She volunteered thousands of hours over a ten-year period to the Mountains Community Hospital Auxiliary. Although she and her late husband Bob had a small boat in Lake Arrowhead, Pam never learned how to swim because of her fear of getting polio as a child. Bob passed away in 2006 and then Pam lost her home in the 2007 fire and moved to Monrovia shortly thereafter. Helen Quinn, an Auxiliary member and her husband Duane, were Bob and Pam’s next-door neighbors. Helen got them involved in the Auxiliary. Helen remembers that Pam held several leadership positions in the Auxiliary and Bob was always along to help. “I miss her,” says Helen, “she was very sweet.”
Pam is survived by her brother, Dennis Phillips (Nancy), son Todd Harwell (Lisa), grandson Blake Harwell, granddaughters Ashley Marvin and Hannah Harwell, step granddaughter Kristina and three great grandchildren, two of whom were born shortly after her death.
Mountains Community Hospital Foundation is very grateful to Pam and her entire family for this incredible gift. Her fellow Auxiliary members remember her fondly and I am sure many people in the community will remember the Husses as well. We look forward to honoring her at this year’s Rose Memorial and on our donor wall, as a member of the Legacy Society.
