Mountains Community Health Remembers Skilled Nursing Resident, Janet Owens

LAKE ARROWHEAD, Calif. — August 26, 2026 – Mountains Community Health is saddened to share the passing of longtime Skilled Nursing Facility resident Janet Owens, who passed away on July 29th. Janet called MCH’s Skilled Nursing Facility home for 12 years and became a cherished part of the community.

For Janet, the Skilled Nursing Facility was truly home, and the staff, their children, and our volunteers became her family. She was known for her strong personality, quick wit, and unmistakable voice. If you walked past her room, you might hear her call out, “Get in here, girl!” Janet had a way of making everyone feel welcome—and making sure she was never overlooked. Her warmth and humor brought joy to the halls of MCH.

Janet’s connection to MCH went beyond the care she received. During her time at MCH, Insurance Eligibility Specialist Sherry Cowan advocated for Janet in a San Bernardino County court proceeding, helping her receive funds from the sale of her former home. In 2018, Janet generously donated $62,000 to the hospital to support the renovation of the Solarium, a gathering space for patients and staff.

“Janet was much more than a patient—she was part of our MCH family,” said Cynthia Bush, Skilled Nursing Director. “It was a privilege to care for her and get to know her over the years. She will be deeply missed by the staff and residents whose lives she touched.” On August 26, staff and volunteers, along with Janet’s family and friends, gathered to celebrate her life and honor the lasting impact she had on the MCH community. Janet’s ashes were placed in the Memorial Garden and Columbarium at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Lake Arrowhead. Janet’s generosity, spirit, and unmistakable voice will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

The Skilled Nursing Facility at Mountains Community Health provides long-term and skilled nursing care in a close-knit environment with an excellent patient-to-staff ratio. The facility currently accommodates 20 residents and has a waiting list. To help meet the growing need for skilled nursing care in our community, MCH has plans to expand the facility by 13 additional beds.
